The Rolling Stone journalists made a list of the creepiest TV series of all time – about vampires, serial killers and other villains. Here is the top ten. We warn you, the information below is not for the faint-hearted!

10th place

"The Walking Dead"

It premiered on Halloween Eve, October 31, 2010. Already ten seasons have been aired by today and the eleventh is planned. The actors were specially trained in zombie school, throughout the shooting days "zombies" were eating separately from those who played humans, the makeup process took hours. And these TV series have set more than one record by the number of views.

9th place

“American Horror Story”

One of the highest-rated series on FOX. The creators of this story find inspiration in our harsh reality and terrifying legends. Even the Gothic "killer house" from the first season actually exists, and Airbnb offers everyone to rent it for $1500 per day.

8th place

“Black Mirror”

Futuristic, pessimistic, full of fear about the man-made future, the "Black Mirror" TV series consists of unrelated series. It seems that there are no topics left, which the digital society doesn't care about and which did not get into the script of Charlie Brooker, by the way, satirical writer and the columnist of Guardian. Season five is out this summer.

7th place

“True Detective”

This television anthology boasts a really star casting: here are Colin Farrell, Mahershala Ali, and Matthew McConaughey. Filters for shooting, weather, locations – everything was selected to cause psychological tension of the viewer. The streaming service NBO fell under the pressure of a record number of viewers who wanted to watch the final episode of the first season. A third season was released in early 2019.

6th place

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

If in 1997 there were comic elements in a series about a girl with superhuman abilities destroying the evil, by 2003 it turned into a more dramatic story. By the way, this is where the phrase Google it! was said for the first time. And Buffy herself, according to Entertainment Weekly, was one of the three characters of all time, surpassed only by Homer Simpson and Harry Potter.

5th place

“Channel Zero”

Four seasons with six episodes in each – you can watch them in any order, because each season tells a different horror story from a series of "city legends". The scriptwriters snuck a peek of the plot on Internet forums.

4th place

“The X-Files”

The idea of filming a TV show about classified phenomena came to the head of producer Chris Carter after a Harvard professor wrote an alien kidnapping report. The series ran from 1993 to 2018 – David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson stayed forever in the memory of millions as agents Mulder and Scully. It's interesting, that Dana Scully is a keen skeptic, unlike Fox Mulder, but in life – exactly the opposite.

3rd place

“Hannibal”

This bone-chilling cinema story about a bloodthirsty and intelligent killer, Dr. Hannibal Lector, whose natural charm is close to animal magnetism, was aired on NBC from 2013 to 2015. All the series were named after the meals of French and Japanese cuisine, and the edible dishes allegedly prepared from human flesh were made by a professional stylist – artist Janice Poon. She later admitted that it was the most unusual experience in her career.

2nd place

“The Twilight Zone”

The first episode of "Twilight Zone" was released exactly 60 years ago. Since then, the television show has repeatedly been part of the best TV series ratings, in 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked it among the top three shows of all time. The reboot of the project was in spring 2019.

1st place

“Twin Peaks”

David Lynch's iconic drama has entered "The Best TV Shows of All Time" according to Time. It all started with David Lynch and Mark Frost working on a biography of Marilyn Monroe – and it was the tragic death of the Hollywood beauty that inspired them to create this script. In 1990, in the absence of modern technologies, the director was able to make sure that the sound of actors' lines made viewers shiver: actors read their text backwards, after the sound track was scrolled in reverse – and then that distorted sound came out.
