At the Marionette Theatre on the evening of 16 November, Roberto Coin Khamsa Project, inspired by the architecture of various cities and history, was presented in collaboration with ITALDIZAIN. The evening's guests were treated to the documentary "The Architecture of Jewellery." This documentary delved into tales of jewellery, weaving Italian narratives into the heart of Baku's cityscape.
For Italian jeweller Roberto Coin, travel remains an evergreen wellspring of inspiration. Exploring a city is akin to watching a vivid film, unfurling a tapestry of tales embedded within its architecture, natural landscapes, floral patterns, and vibrant hues.
Roberto Coin's workshop brings together various experiences and journeys, combined with tales of love, beauty, and strength from ancient cities, woven into the four distinctive collections.
Inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, "Love in Verona" narrates tales of romance and eternal devotion through its jewellery pieces. "Flower Princess" embodies an enchanting fairytale essence, crafted skillfully like blossoming flowers in an eternal garden. "Venetian Princess" evokes ancient legends, capturing their timeless mystery and allure. Meanwhile, "Art Deco" showcases an elegant fusion of style and experimentation.
The tenderness of Love in Verona, the fantasy of Flower Princess, the rigour of Art Deco, and the mystery of Venetian Princess merged with the richness and versatility of Baku. Azerbaijan's architecture mirrored the concepts and inspirations woven into Roberto Coin's jewellery. This synergy birthed magic: the city's ornate symmetry translated into necklaces, intricate floral motifs intertwined with delicate earring designs, and balcony facades' geometric allure echoed in abstract ring patterns.
Architecture encapsulates cultural essence, yet it's the people who narrate a city's story. Baku's distinctiveness resonates in its inhabitants, particularly the women who serve as muses for the Italian maestro's collections. The city's spirit harmonises with the enthusiasm, romanticism, and resilience of Roberto Coin's muses.
And each heroine finds her unique path to inspiration. Ilya Aliyeva, the heroine of Love in Verona, discovered hers through the culinary arts, delving into the immersive world of cooking. Formerly a culinary columnist representing Azerbaijani cuisine globally, she embraced her passion, overcoming doubts, and eventually established her own studio for cookery masterclasses.
Mira, the muse of Flower Princess, finds her inspiration in music. At 21, against societal norms and family expectations, Mira pursued her dream of becoming a DJ. Now, at 25, she graces the stage, donning her headphones, and shares her music, spreading joy not just to herself but to everyone around her.
Aysu Mirzazadeh, the embodiment of Art Deco, expresses her vision through art, specifically in her creations of ceramic tableware. The pieces she crafts inspire everyone who encounters them. According to the Muse herself, love is the driving force that keeps her going, a force that refuses to let her stop.
Aysel Sadigova, a designer of clothing and accessories and the inspiring figure behind the Venetian Princess collection, values minimalism, exceptional quality, and pure forms. These principles laid the foundation for her own brand. Starting with limited means – barely enough for 30 centimetres of fabric – she's now the proud owner of her own studio, having achieved her aspirations.
The presentation of the film "The Architecture of Jewellery" was followed by a public discussion with the heroines – Roberto Coin's muses: Ilya Aliyeva, Aysel Sadigova, and Aysu Mirzazade, who took centre stage. Wrapping up the evening, jazz singer Rilaya Huseynzadeh delivered an exclusive performance programme.
