When people of different nationalities – Azerbaijanis, Jews, Talyshes, Kurds, Russians, Lezgins, Tats – live together in a small courtyard and become friends – then you know you are in Azerbaijan. Pilgrims from all over the world would come here to pray in the Zoroastrian temples; some would offer fruit to the deity, others would torture themselves for him. Here, you can tell a lot about the origins of a family from the way they dance. There have never been any conflicts in Azerbaijan because of religion, race, or skin colour. This is a multinational land where different cultures and languages develop side by side, one enriching the other.
